Meet Suzanne, The Tudor Barn’s recommended florist.

Flowers are such an important part of any wedding. Here at The Tudor Barn, Burnham, we’re thrilled to have Hot Flowers as our recommended florist. We grabbed five minutes with owner Suzanne who let us in on a few secrets…

How long have you been a florist?

All my working life, so over 30 years now. Wow – that makes me sound ancient! I’ve always loved flowers and gardening has been a passion of mine since childhood so a career in floristry was the ideal occupation. I love meeting new people and every wedding is different so it’s a really great industry to be in.

What’s the most unusual request you’ve had?

We have been in-house florist for a number of establishments and one local famous country house hotel had an American family take over the whole building for a week for exclusive use. The wife loved white flowers, which wasn’t a problem. But didn’t want any foliage which was a problem! We had to use hundreds of white flowers and then scrunched up white tissue to push down between the stems to fill any gaps!

Have you noticed any trends recently?

Couples are definitely leaning towards a more natural, unstructured look. Foliage is very important, brides are looking for a variety of interesting greenery, grasses, seed pods, berries etc. to give texture and interest. Wild flowers are becoming more popular with things like wheat, bulrushes etc. used too.

What tips could you give any couples planning their wedding flowers?

Find a supplier you trust and let them help and guide you. Ask your friends for recommendations and check out companies social media reviews. Although it’s nice to do bits of the wedding yourselves I would say that with flowers it’s always best to leave it to the experts! A good florist know what works best for you and your venue, they know what flowers are in season and where to buy the best quality blooms. Seasonal is the key, beautiful fresh spring flowers for weddings early in the year then blowsy roses and peonies for summer, autumn the focus on gorgeous berries and rich colours whilst the winter brides it’s all about strong reds, cones, berries, spruce and maybe a bit of frosted foliage!

Thanks Suzanne. Hot Flowers are just one of our Recommended Supplier here at The Tudor Barn, Burnham.

Love
